Our Story

Brooks and Hannah McKenzie met in 2011 on the Christian Mingle dating app. Brooks lived in Jacksonville, FL and Hannah lived here in Washington state. After just six weeks of talking over the phone and Skype, Brooks booked a flight to Washington and long story short, never left! Six months later in June 2012, they were married. At the time, Hannah was working at a hair salon in Bellevue and Brooks was doing side construction jobs.

In 2013, they rented a home on a farm. Shortly after moving there, having no prior farming experience or interest, Brooks decided to get a goat for Hannah for Christmas, followed by a small flock of chickens. They sold the eggs the chickens produced through Hannah’s salon and other friends and birthed a love for farming neither of them expected.

During this time, Hannah's parents were considering moving from their home in Enumclaw where Hannah grew up. Brooks started talking to them about the possibility of buying some property together. Family was always important to them, and what better way to stay close than living on the same property? While this dream seemed extremely far-fetched, God opened doors only He can and they ended up on a property with two homes and 5-acres in Buckley, WA. They are still blown away that this dream became a reality!

Brooks and Hannah welcomed their first daughter in 2015 shortly after moving to Buckley. They have since welcomed three more children with a fifth child due in January, 2026. Their main drive for farming has been the time they can spend with their kids and the flexibility that farming offers. Although it requires many more hours than the average 9-5 job, the flexibility of making their own hours allows them time to be able to wake up in the morning and cuddle with the kids or take a break in the middle of the day to come in and play hide-and-seek. Not to mention all the wonderful life skills the farm offers their kids. Brooks and Hannah know that they are the ones to kiss the kid’s booboos, to show them how to work hard, and they can do life together with them 24/7. Nothing can beat that.

Since being here, they have experimented with horse boarding, goat milk production, egg production, meat birds, and a variety of different pork breeds to try to find their niche. Through lots of trial and error, they have discovered their passion for Heritage pork, grass-fed beef, and free-range chicken.
